111 years and we're just now getting a blog?!

In 1895 the citizens of Vergennes, Vermont voted at its annual meeting to spend $10,000 to build a new opera house and city hall to replace a previous building that burned down earlier that year. The contract for design and construction was awarded to a Rutland architectural firm and two years later the Vergennes City Hall and Opera House was completed... and only $2000 over budget!

This blog will look at the history, restoration and continued operation of this landmark of architecture and culture in the heart of Vermont's oldest city.
